Located a stone’s throw away from the Ohio River in Middleport, Pomeroy is a cozy spot hiding a variety of old-fashioned and unique finds. Tuckerman’s Too is stacked from the floor to the ceiling with natural goodies, all with a little retro appeal and made by local producers. Looking for some chewy strawberry candy that takes you back to your childhood? Grab a box of their Broadway Laces!
The owner Amy Blake started the store by collaborating with five local women from Pomeroy. What began with some candy and old-fashioned sodas is today a booming local business that provides a platform for the community’s producers.
“Everyone involved in the planning is a resident of Ohio,” Amy says. “Now their products are sold in the store.”
It didn’t take long for Amy’s business to be supported by the community, making it a success. Today Tuckerman’s Too is home to an assortment of creations from seven local producers. Looking for some art? Some essential oil blends for your health? A ship overflowing with toffees? They’ve got you covered.
For Amy, being a part of the business district has meant not only receiving support from local producers but also supporting them in return.
“I buy a lot of wholesale products that come out of Ohio,” she says. This in turn, has helped contribute to the local economy and contributed to the growth of local producers – a sentiment that many businesses in Pomeroy seem to support and practice. After moving to their current location only three weeks ago due to construction at their Middleport location, this waterfront store is attracting a loyal crowd, but also curious visitors.
So what’s coming up for Tuckerman’s Too you ask? Well, quite a bit actually. “We are excited about the potential of the store,” Amy says. She is currently organizing a grand shopping event that brings residents of Ohio together to explore and support local businesses and buy products unique to the Buckeye State.
